Sapphire in Yellow?

Yellow sapphire stones come in many shades of yellow, from the palest light lemon to a dark golden yellow. The vast array of hues is more than you can possibly think of.

Yellow sapphire stones are categorized as fancy sapphires. This is true of all sapphires not of the standard blue variety.

How It's Made

Yellow sapphire, along with all other sapphires, is a 9 on the  MOHS hardness scale second only to diamond. Sapphire is known as corundum, an aluminum oxide mineral which includes rubies. Rubies are simply the red variety of sapphire.  If it's pink, it's pink sapphire, if it's red, it's a ruby. The coloring in a yellow sapphire is caused by iron in the rock, creating a light to dark yellow nearly turning to brown.

Sapphire is the stone of wisdom. It symbolizes strength, power and good judgment. Sapphires are used to promote calmness and  help center the mind to generate abundance. It is considered the stone of plenty.

Uses

A Sapphire in any color is the birthstone for September.  Because it is an extremely hard and durable stone, it can be used for any kind of jewelry.  Yellow sapphire is frequently used as an excellent substitute for yellow diamonds, which are prohibitively expensive.
